The Field Guide - Preface: The Crock Pot

As a landscape architect who specializes in the master planning of athletic and park facilities, I quickly required a book that could easily reference basic sports field layouts. This book needed to be filled with diagrams, dimensions, and layouts of almost every sports field imaginable, including the many different age groups and levels. Albeit very useful, it didn’t need to be filled with information about maintenance or engineering or rules. It needed drawings, and lots of them! Naturally, I searched the web and bookstores for such a book. It came to my attention that a book such as this just didn’t exist or couldn’t easily be found. I contemplated that maybe this book just wasn’t necessary. I had made it this far in my career without it. Plus, all this information is already available, for free, on different websites or in bits and pieces in other books. “Stop there!” I told myself. This is also true about crock-pot recipes. I can find hundreds of free crock-pot recipes on the web plus there are a dozen cookbooks specifically just for crock-pots. It was the day my wife and I bought a crock-pot recipe book that convinced me to write this book. If there is a need for twelve books on crock-pots then there is a need for one book filled with field diagrams.

Seriously, I hope all who use this book will find it as useful as I do. It’s a book I bring to every design charret, client meeting, site visit or construction progress meeting.  I also want to take this time to thank you for supporting my book, and most importantly, using this book as a reference in your profession. I really do appreciate it.

                                                      Sincerely - Michael Walker
